Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Purple) – 1995 PPG Pace Car
This Corvette was displayed at the 1995 SEMA Show, but sadly scrapped in 2000.
History
In the year 2000, after being retired from pace car duty, this Corvette went to PAF/Wheel to Wheel in Troy, MI. (no longer in business) where the drivetrain, suspension and brakes were removed and installed into a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air build for Dale Earnhardt. His accident was almost two decades ago, but the 1957 has remained in a private collection and has yet to be revealed to the public as of 2020. All that remained of the PPG Corvette was a shell and it was scrapped at Schram Auto.
Specifications
This sleek convertible in Purple Pearl features a standard 300-horsepower, 5.7-liter V8 engine, an automatic transmission and Goodyear 275/40×17 GSC tires wrapped around ZR-1 five-spoke wheels. Where a normal convertible’s hard top attaches on the rear, what appears to be the back half of a hard top is present, giving this Corvette the appearance of a targa top. Note the black roll bar protruding up past the roof line. Other modifications are unknown.
Current Status
Dismantled for parts and scrapped. Special thanks to Chris for providing the unfortunate story of this car.
